EUR/USD: News, Analysis & Educational Trade Ideas
Euro / US dollar · latest OpenBook briefings, educational trade ideas and a plain-English guide to what moves this market.
What is EUR/USD?
EUR/USD is the exchange rate between the euro and the US dollar: the price shows how many US dollars one euro buys. It is the most traded currency pair in the world, which usually makes it one of the most liquid and tightly priced instruments in forex.
Because it links the two largest currency blocs, EUR/USD reacts to anything that changes the relative outlook for the eurozone and the United States, from central-bank decisions to growth data and shifts in global risk appetite.
What drives EUR/USD
- Monetary policy at the European Central Bank (ECB) and the US Federal Reserve, and the interest-rate gap between them.
- Inflation data (eurozone HICP, US CPI and PCE) and what it implies for future rate moves.
- US jobs data such as the monthly nonfarm payrolls report, plus GDP and business surveys (PMIs) on both sides of the Atlantic.
- Broad US dollar demand and global risk sentiment, including energy prices that affect the eurozone economy.
